4 Reasons Why I Love Being an INFJ Personality

A woman reflects on why she loves being an INFJ personality.

Last month I opened up to you about some personal struggles I had been going through over the last few months. I mentioned welcoming autumn with open arms, and I feel I truly have. I have been in a much more positive head space. Luckily, the negativity that was surrounding my life has been removed. I have more time to focus on myself and nurturing my soul’s needs. I am becoming more myself and it is a beautiful feeling.

I’m sure you can relate to that moment when you discovered that you are an INFJ. For me, it was a relief. It was like the words I was reading were actually a hand reaching out to me, letting me know I wasn’t alone. Since I discovered my personality type almost five years ago, it’s been quite a journey. I’ve learned more about how I function in relationships with others and my relationship to myself. I am discovering that I have boundaries and it is acceptable to make them known to protect myself. I can recognize my weaknesses and accept them along with my strengths. Since I have been in a more loving, accepting state of being, I wanted to expand on some of the many reasons why I love being an INFJ. Here are four.

Why I Love Being an INFJ Personality

1. Our intuition is often eerily accurate.

This is the biggest aspect of our personality that is simultaneously mysterious yet innately understood. The INFJ’s dominant function is Ni, or Introverted Intuition. Our entire sense of self is wrapped around our intensely felt intuitive nature. I develop gut feelings about situations and people easily. I let those feelings guide me through my decision-making processes. I will admit that my instincts are not always accurate, especially regarding people I let into my life, but my gut feelings have never let me down. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, which is a positive thing. However, when things go wrong in a relationship, I tend to see the patterns early on. It doesn’t take much for me to realize when things are not okay. In this way, my intuition has been my most reliable source of information. Lucky for us, intuition is natural, but it is also something that can be improved upon. Taking time to be in tune with yourself will increase your intuitive abilities. Trust yourself and trust your gut.

2. We’re highly creative.

INFJs are notoriously creative people. Although I do tend to be overly analytical, I much prefer the abstract and theoretical. Facts and figures do not interest me nearly as much as emotion, poetry, art, or the supernatural or unexplainable things that exist in our world. I’ve always been a highly imaginative person, with lots of little worlds tucked away inside my mind that I retreat to when the real world becomes too much. These worlds are projected into the mediums I use to express my experiences. Whether I am writing or decorating my apartment, I take each and every visual cue that I’ve absorbed into my inner worlds and use them to make my surroundings more comfortable and beautiful. I often receive compliments on my creative skills and I take those compliments to heart. It is something I truly pride myself on. I encourage you to take on a creative endeavor, no matter what size, to feel proud of yourself.

3. Our sensitive nature allows us to tune into other people’s emotions.

The INFJ’s sensitivity is sometimes seen by others as a weakness, but it is something I am proud of. I love being soft in a world that has relentlessly told me not to be. My voice is quiet, my mannerisms are gentle. I feel absolutely everything. Thanks to the INFJ’s secondary function Fe, or Extraverted Feeling, it is guaranteed that we will at times feel other people’s emotions. This can make it difficult for us to know how we feel, but it’s an amazing thing that I can be in tune with the emotions of those around me. Being able to sense these things has made me a more empathetic and nurturing individual. I am a caretaker by nature. I enjoy being able to anticipate the needs of others so I can be of help to them. Sensitivity is a key component of my personality, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Remember, sensitivity requires strength.

4. Our ability to spend time alone makes us stronger.

As an introvert, solitude is a relief in a world that can be overstimulating. Although INFJs are typically social introverts (I definitely am), we still need plenty of time alone to recharge. There have been phases in my own life when being alone actually results in me feeling lonely. However, when I do get the chance to settle into my solitude, I feel not only comforted, but also free. Free to do whatever I want, whenever I want. My independence means a great deal to me. Spending a lot of time alone allows me to get in touch with myself and it helps me be a stronger, more self-assured individual. For any INFJ out there, revel in your alone time. Grab a book or curl up with your Netflix account. Whatever works for you, but please enjoy it.

The above mentioned are only a few things I value about our personality type. There are many aspects of the INFJ personality that are beautiful. What are your favorite parts of our personality type?
