August Letter from the Editor

Jenn GrannemanHey everyone,

I’ve got exciting news—I’m writing my very first book! It’s called The Secret Lives of Introverts: Inside Our Hidden World. It’s being published by Skyhorse Publishing and will be out next August.

For me, this is a dream come true. As a little girl, I fantasized about being an author. I spent hours alone in my bedroom writing fantasy stories and dramatic poetry. I had no idea at the time that my first book would be about introverts. Heck, I had no idea what “introvert” meant, nor that I myself was one.

Later in life, learning that I’m an introvert literally changed my life. Since then, I’ve been on a mission to let introverts know that it’s okay to be who they are. The Secret Lives of Introverts is a part of that mission; it’s the book I’ve been wanting to write for years.

Using the latest scientific research, interviews with other introverts, and my own story, the book will explore what it’s really like being an introvert. Hopefully it will help you understand yourself better—and help the extroverts in your life understand and appreciate you, too.

In the book, you’ll meet many introverts. For example, there’s Michael, a server at a local brew pub. He told me that he can put on an extroverted act when he’s at work—but then he goes home and plays video games by himself to recover. And there’s Amanda, who always felt different from others. In college, she snuck off to a park by herself because she couldn’t stand having to constantly socialize in the dorms.

If you have ideas for topics you’d like to see included in the book, or just want to give me some feedback, email me at [email protected].

Finally, I want to say thank you to everyone who supported Introvert, Dear on Patreon this month. Many people think there is a team of corporate editors and marketers behind the site. I’ll tell you a secret: there’s not. It’s me. Just me. I write and edit articles at my kitchen table. In my bed late at night. At the coffee shop near my apartment. I do it to make the world a friendlier place for introverts.

That’s why I ask for support from readers. When you support Introvert, Dear, you’re not just supporting a website—you’re supporting me and the introvert cause.

So, thank you to everyone who believes in what I do—whether you support me with a monthly pledge; by purchasing products from our affiliates like Personality HackerAmazon, or Brenda Knowles; or by simply clicking “like” and “share” when you read an Introvert, Dear article that resonates with you.

I can’t say this enough: your support means the world to me. And it helps make this crazy dream of mine possible.

Quietly yours,

P.S. I’m still living in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. (My boyfriend, who travels a lot through Latin America, is taking a Spanish class. I’m just along for the ride.) If you live in or near San Miguel, I’d love to meet you. We can meet at a coffee shop and have a quiet, “introvert” style chat. Send me an email ([email protected]) if you’d like to do that.
